Research for Goodhue County records a licensed capacity of 88 and notes secure detention space used by counties. Those facts describe the facility’s function, not a public population list. The campus should not be treated as a county jail simply because it sits in Red Wing or provides detention space to counties.
A separate Level 2 adult unit operates on the Red Wing campus. Its residents and records use the adult DOC system. That physical overlap can cause a serious search error. A name connected to “Red Wing” does not by itself reveal whether the person was in the juvenile program, secure county detention space, or the adult unit. The placing order, date of birth, court file, and agency contact must be reconciled before choosing a record route.
Red Wing Juvenile Release Records
A useful request describes an existing record and the requester’s lawful connection to it. It should not ask staff to create a public release report. Depending on authority and classification, existing records may reflect the placement order, admission, transfer, transition plan, community reentry, termination of placement, or return to the placing county. Ask which agency owns the current placement record and what proof of authority is needed. That method avoids sending private facts to a facility that may not hold the young person.
A juvenile case can also change settings without ending court authority. Treatment progress, a court review, or another placement decision may lead to a move. Preserve the official term used for the event. A transition to a less restrictive setting is not automatically a final discharge, just as a transfer between secure settings is not community release.

That office can help identify the proper DOC unit, but it does not turn restricted juvenile information into public data. Red Wing Juvenile Release Destination
Where a young person goes after MCF–Red Wing depends on the order and approved plan. Possible outcomes include a return to the responsible county, another residential setting, a less restrictive placement, or community reentry with services and oversight. The public facility description does not provide a person-by-person destination ledger. Only the responsible juvenile record can distinguish those outcomes.
That distinction protects both accuracy and privacy. “No longer at Red Wing” is not a complete status. It may mark a transfer or a change in placement rather than the end of court authority. An authorized requester should preserve the exact wording used by the court or agency and avoid converting a placement change into an unsupported claim of full discharge.
